The 73-79 ford trucks VIN plate is located on the cab, not the door. So you would have to swap cabs. If you have the original VIN # and do a swap, you can request a new VIN plate to stick on your cab. As far as the the model of trucks with the VINs on the doors, replacing doors happen all the time and body shops get different stickers.
Cool, I was reading an add where a person was selling a pair of '74 doors and also mentioned that for an extra cach he would include the title that went with the door vin#.........
There's an aluminum tag on the drivers door, there's the sticker in the drivers door jamb, there's another aluminum tag on the passenger firewall in the engine compartment, and finally there is a vin on the passenger side frame rail just forward of the body mount
I have a question kinda on this topic. My truck is a 75 and it had the sticker on the cab, but it has been torn off. is there any way that I can get another sticker and the aluminum tag on the door? I had to get the vin off of the firewall to register my truck, but I wanted to get the sticker to put in the cab for whn I restore the truck... any ideas?
If the plate or sticker is destroyed in an accident, it is possible for an authorized Ford Dealer's parts department to order a new one. Both the VIN and the dealers secret parts code has to be provided before Ford will allow a new VIN plate or sticker to be available.
