Angry 4R44E Transmission, Reverse trouble

I have a 2000 Ranger w/ a 4R44E tranny, 4WD 3.0 engine. My problem is reverse. When it first started it would hesitate going into reverse, then it kept getting worse to not going in reverse at all. I drained the fluid and changed the filter, everything looked good. I put new fluid in and some trans-x cleaner and it started to improve. It was going into reverse easier and kept getting better for about a week and now it is reverting back to not going in at all. I am wondering if this could be a solenoid going bad or a bad valve body or what? Please help me, this is driving me crazy.

That trans had a problem with the valve body gaskets blowing out and also the gasket at the reverse servo. do a search here and you'll probably find tsb's on it

Could someone give some info on the gaskets that are mentioned and describe where exactly they are located. I know about the valve body gasket but not the reverse servo, where is it located?

when looking at the trans in the vehicle with the pan off it will be on the passengers side at the back corner. you need to remove the valve body to replace these gaskets. there are three: one is between the separator plate and the trans case, the next is between the separator plate and the valve body and the last is between the reverse servo cover and the separator plate. I am foggy on the basic part numbers but I think that two of them were 7D100 and 7C155. you'll also need fluid, filter and trans pan gasket. you might as well change out the fluid in the t-case while your at it.
They also updated the torque specs for the valve body bolts and if I remember it was 100 in/lb. torque them in a circular pattern from the inside out.

I dont know of anything on the net but that doesnt mean there could be as I dont know everything. You could go by your local Ford dealer and get copies from a repair manual and while there get a print out of the TSB that has the information about it.

In the instructions it will tell you that you need these alignment dowel pins with a ford number, you just need to put the bolts that you remove when you take the valve body down in those same holes and finger tighten them to hold the valve body in place as you install the rest of the bolts. Note: the bolts are different lengths and the filter bolt needs to be set aside for the filter installation later so dont get it mixed up with the rest of them. Further, when installing the bolts they will hang down approximately 3/8" spacing from the valve body surface. you'll see that the valve body surface is not flat. So longer bolts fit where the valve body is the thickest and shorter bolts fit where is is thinnest. If I remmeber right there are four lengths of bolts with the filter bolt being the longest.
