I have a 90 5.8L and my stock exhaust is shot and rotted. I started cutting it off yesterday and noticed that when I was just about all the way through behind the pre-cat the heat riser tube that flows to the EGR was behind where I was cutting and when I finish cutting it off it will be out of system. Am I going to experience any problems without the EGR system? It won't do anything now anyways because there is a huge hole cut in the exhaust right before the tube. I plan on replacing the exhaust after xmas but I can't afford to right now. Will the truck still run well without it? It is too late to go back and fix the cut as I am almost completely through the exhaust. So, as of today I will be running 1 cat and that is all without an EGR tube. What can I expect? Thanks in advance.
Be very careful about exhaust gasses getting into the inside of the vehicle. I would drive with the window cracked to make sure you have adequate ventilation.
Ditto to the fumes precaution. Also, I drove my '92 with that same genreal area having a large hole in it til I bought my Bassani stainless system. Also had one of them there custom two piece driver side manifolds that every body seems to run sooner or later (drippng sarcasm). I did notice better mileage when the system was closed up and running right but it didn't have to much of an adverse effect on the way the truck ran. A little goofy when really cold but nothing unlivable til I replaced it all.
