I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could get an EGR puller like the one in the one the dealership uses. I have tried the welding wire trick and all other forms of pulling and mine must be very dirty because I cant get it to budge. I believe the tool # of the one in the service manual is #303-760. thanks
I have never used the "special" tool outside of Ford school. I have a 4 inch pair of vise grips that I grab the valve with a pull it out. To be honest, I think the "special" tool sucks.
i dont use the puller either. on the trucks i use a lady foot pry bar, on the econs, i use a plain prybar. make sure you turn the egr valve 1/4 turn both ways to help it loosen up.
I actually was successful in removing the egr valve tonight. I did it with the engine warm and used aluminum welding wire and that made it easier to thread through the holes in the valve and twist back around to hold during the prying. This worked well and boy did my valve need cleaning. There was so much buildup I am planning on doing this at every oil change.

Be careful about doing it that frequently, because the gasket and o-rings on it will wear out pretty soon. They aren't expensive though; I would replace them every time they are out....less than 10 dollars.
