yes, theoretically it would be cheaper to buy the time-sert and do it. However, the mech "says" that he got the Lisle tool "stuck" and he can't get it out. So WWIII is going to take place at his shop tomorrow. I have to duke it out with them to get their tool out and give me back my truck. You're right. I should have just bought the time-sert to begin with. Besides, if the lawyer in California wins the class action suit, I'd get nothing b/c Ford didn't do the repair.
I talked to one of my Marines who was a Ford mech and he says that my mech's time for pulling the head is way too high (14 hours in and out). he says he did them in 8... in and out. Unfortunately he is two states away. Two days out of work. Good thing I own my own business...
any info on this class action lawsuit?? My '99 expy just did this on the #3 plug and I'm having trouble getting it repaired. If I can get it done on Ford's dime instead of mine, that'd be great!!!
http://fordcanada.net/index.html is one of many links I found. I talked to Ford Motor Co. They are going to fight any kind of recall obviously. The recall for the speed control was the largest recall they have done to date and that is a 5min fix. Can you imagine what the cost to FMC would be to have to replace all the cylinder heads???
My advice (and FMC): have a Ford dealer fix the problem, if it does go to a recall you will be reimbursed. Until then... sorry your SOL. http://www.timesert.com/index.html try this one if you want to fix it yourself. The best fix and most expensive is a new head.
Update on my situation is a new cylinder head after a failed attempt with the LISLE rethread kit.
Good Luck.
