Brake controller on 06 LCF

Anyone know the wiring to hook up a brake controller on an 06 ford LCF?

Thanks!

Not exactly based on an International, but a joint venture. The engine is from Navistar, the trans from Ford, the cab is a Mazda, with either Ford or International badges, depending on which dealer it's going to. The rest of the chassis is essentially an F550.

The LCF doesn't have a plug for a controller under the dash. (that I am aware of, nor the techs at the ford dealer)

So you'll have to wire it like the old days....you'll have to run the power wires to fused wire from battery or ignition and to the lights and brake hot wire. The controller you buy should have the wiring diagram in the box. If you already have a controller, visit their web site for directions.

I would suggest going with a "timed based control" The inertia activated controls will not see enough change in inertia to start to work. The suspensions on this type of truck is so stiff that there is no feel transmitted to the control that deceleration is taking place. You wil also have to go with the old fashioned way of hard wiring the brake control. Most Commercial Truck body upfitters have experience in this type of application if you don't want to tackle it yourself.

I believe the truck has anti-lock brakes? correct? I just wasn't sure how this affected the wiring? if at all.

BPofMD's post pretty much summed up the wiring requirements. The anti lock brakes will not come into play with a timed based brake control installation. Most brake controls will come with the instructions on wiring up the control. Most brake control manufacturer web sites have the instructions available also if you want to read through the procedure. My experience is that in this type of application, the low to medium cost controls will work better than the most expensive. So.. What kind of trailer are you going to be towing? Are you building a custom hauller for a 5th wheel? If yes, make sure you check the height of the 5r you select. These rigs usually require a low profile set up.

Just towing a landscape trailer on a ball hitch. 7000lb- 11000lb.

okay. I was just worried about hooking it up wrong with the anti lock brakes.

Thanks,
Jody
