I have a LCF 45, 4.5L V6. My turbo charger unit is leaking oil into the air intake and out onto the top of the engine, which apparantly means a seal inside it is broken.
I've been told, by 2 different people, that when this happens you have to replace the whole unit as its near impossible to refurbish. Ford, for parts only, are quoting $2300 for each turbo charger. I'm amazed they would cost anything near this price. Apparantly its also a fairly common thing for the turbos to break/stop work on these trucks.
Is any of this true? Would appreciate any help! Thanks!
Jagarrd, sorry to hear about your problems. $4,600.0 for both turbo's?? Sounds awfully high. I have an 06 LCF 14' utlitity body 46,000 miles, so I know how you feel about getting information about these trucks.. Call some turbo shops - Evergreen Turbos, VS racing, etc and see if they can rebuuild it or send you in the right direction.
I can't offer you any help on the turbos, but I had an ongoing problem with a hard start issue the past 1 1/2 years until recently an almost no start. Turns out my front 2 port plugs in the cylinder heads had the o-rings torn and the rail ( plastic chamfered nipples ) replaced. Now the truck starts just as new << just for future reference.
