Yes its basically 3/4 of a 6.0, used in the little cab over trucks that International and Ford sell.

I really wanted to drop one into my Expedition and then put an solid axel swap in front but those motors are just way too few and far between. The Ford LCF (Low Cab Forward) was only made for a few years but they made the International version with the same motor for a few years more. I'm not sure what motors they use now, very well could be the same motor since those trucks didn't have to change for emissions as much as the pickups. If I remember correctly their output was something around 220 hp and 440 ft-lb.

The International version was first known as the VT275 and the 2007 emission version was known as the MaxxForce 5. They don't build a 2010 emission standard version of this engine.

Aren't these things notorious for breaking down? I mean granted the engines were only used on a fleet work type vehicle, so we all know how those can be maintained. But I haven't seen a single Ford LCF not blowing blue smoke.

I have seen a few 4.5L in my line of work. They are part of a well-maintained fleet for a local paving/sidewalk company and the ones I've seen all ran well. That being said, the 4.5L is the one powerstroke engine i have no hands-on experience with.

Just like everything else. If people don't maintain it or abuse then it gets a bad rap. I think the 6.0 for example is an excellent engine. But when it breaks, get your wallet out.
The 4.5 is just like a 6.0 with a few plumbing differences of course. I kind of like it.

Welcome to FTE!

Open a new thread in either the Large Truck forum or General Diesel forum. General Diesel might be the better bet.

I have not seen anyone really discuss the 4.5 here.

In your thread give specifics. Model truck, year, trans etc. And what are your issues, and what have your tried?

The more info, the quicker you'll get help instead of a series of questions.

Good luck.
