Has anyone tried the Ford tsb method of curing the problem of excessive pre ignition. I have read that Ford had a tsb recc. the use of 3 cans of their carb cleaner ran thru a vacuum line, let sit for hours then drive hard aprox 3000 rpm+. Has anyone tried this with good results ? I have not yet but have tried the cleaning of the mass air flow ..Any ideas ?
The Dealer did this "Decarb" proceedure on my 99 4.0L, to try and address a CCDI problem it has
It worked, but not for long, maybe two months.
I've had better long term luck being real persnickety about the gasoline I use & a extra dose of Techron once a year as needed.
The Techron Concentrate Plus fuel treatment is less costly than Fords decarb proceedure, as with it you'll need to change the oil, filter & clean or change the plugs.
If you think your carbon build up problem is coming from some oil consumption, or the engine is beating te oil to death, such that you have oil breakdown, or oil evaporation, you might consider trying a lube with a higher flash point temp, or a lower % HT/HS evaporation loss number & or a higher viscosity index number & a lower ash number.
If you think the engine is beating the oil to death, a oil with better numbers for these parameters may help with the deposits.
Just some expierences I've had & things I've done, trying to keep my 99 4.0L decarbed & quieted down over the years.
