The only reason I knew anything about the hood scoop is because the hood scoops on all of the Trans Ams I have had in the past stayed attached to the engines when the hoods were raised. The last one I had was a 1979 10th Anniversary with the 4 speed and Pontiac 400 engine. The automatic transmission 10th Anniversary models had the 403 Oldsmobile engine.
I think my brother's Mustang has about 50,000 original miles on it. And it seems to foul the plugs if you don't start it very carefully. I wonder how much his car is worth? What would you guess?
Depends on how original the car is, how many parts have been replaced and with what type (NOS, repop?), the condition (mechanical and body), and how much has been documented.
I am almost certain the car is 100% original. No rust, no bondo, no fenders and doors repaired or replaced. If so, I'm thinking it is in around the $50,000+ range as far as value.
The only reason I ask is because sooner or later my sister-in-law will need to know the value when he kicks the bucket. If he dies of a heart attack tomorrow, I don't want some jerk stealing it from her for $15,000, she wouldn't know any better.
He also has a 1966 Shelby GT he did rebuild from the ground up recently. Be interesting to know how much value it has.
I will come back to life and haunt the person who stops by and steals my Excursion from my wife for $5,000 forever after I die. And there's plenty of jerks who will do it. Death brings a whole lot of misery to families in more ways than one.
Get the car documented and scrutinized. Get a Marti report if he hasn't already done so. Get the car evaluated (judged) at an official MCA car show.
Get it scrutinized and looked at as much as possible where everything gets put under a microscope (nut's, bolts, original factory overspray, etc) and that will help with establishing a starting point for price negotiations.
Barret Jackson has really caused these vehicles to skyrocket in value.
My brother has most likely done any or all of these things. I think I will talk to him about whether he has ever discussed any of this with his wife.
About ten years ago I singlehandedly stopped a scam in the works. A man was giving a woman $4,000 for her deceased husband's 7 year old rear wheel drive full sized Chevrolet automobile. He had her convinced that that's all a 7 year old Chevrolet was worth. But it wasn't just any old 7 year old Chevrolet, it was a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS with 20,000 miles on it. She later sold it for $17,000 and gave me and my wife a $100 gift certificate to the finest restaurant in our city.
