[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Nov-02 AT 10:58 PM (EST)]just curious. all the trucks i've used on the farm in my life have had longbeds. my current '86 is a longbed. i've been asked by several people (including my grandpa who has a shortbed)...."how can you park that thing downtown?"
for me, it's pretty easy.
Longbeds are what real trucks have. And you can park them easily as long as you are a good driver. I have a F-250 SuperCab Longbed. It's not that hard to park. Nothing new to me.
I like them both and use them accordingly. For work around the farm, you got to have the long bed. If you're doing some trail riding, i prefer a short bed for the shorter wheelbase. Hill climbs I prefer the longer wheelbase for stability. I believe that if it's a Ford though, you can never go wrong!
I've got an F250 supercab longbed. I could never see compromising for a shortbed on a large truck.
A friend of mine has a new truck with a supercab shortbed and he dearly regrets it. When we go to our events, he has to put on sideboards to hold all his gear. I usually end up carrying hay bales for both of us and I still have plenty of room left in the longbed.
What I hate to see is an F250/350 crew cab with a shortbed. That's just plain wrong!
I would never buy a truck for a short box unless it was a newer F150 or if the truck was going to be used as a hot rod. Having a Short Box on a Super Duty seems to be a waste to me.
I dunno- I like the longbed I have now, but my ultimate truck would have to be a 99-00 F-250 SD, of course with a PSD, shortbed, and 4x4. Maybe the factory lift option, or a 6" lift. And of course, the 6-speed manual.
i like the short box for looks.... look shorter and sportier... but i can't own one.. my long box isnt' big enough... and no problem to park.... although my wife's ranger is a short box extended cab with a packer.... no room in the box.. lol

Well it's still about 1" too long for the garage. So now it stays in the drive way. The good news is I now have extra garage space to build that hot rod I always wanted!
Only short beds for me. Though I would change if I used a truck to haul some major loads on a dialy basis. But the short beds and regular cabs are what really get my attention. And I think that the F250-350 short beds are way cool. Just as long as it has room to carry a big block engine in the bed I say.
