I think the best looking is short bed standard cab, next would be long bed standard cab. I have always had short beds because I don't often haul much. My current truck is an extended cab (only way could justify to wife so kids could ride) and I must admit that while I miss the tight turning circle of the short bed standard cab, the longer wheelbase does improve the ride and so a long bed standard cab probably is best. I understand that in the past there have been pickups produced with 9- and 10-foot beds. What I don't like is a crew cab short bed, especially with the super short bed, as they look like an SUV--ugh! Likewise nix caps. If I want it to look like an SUV I'll just get an SUV. Now I am not anti-suv, just wanting to preserve the pickup truck class from corruption--augggggggh, but the worst thing is the Avalanche, but that is NOT a pickup as I am told it is built on a Suburban--whew (but then who really cares about that, after all its just a Ch**y)

My off-road truck is a shortbed and even that's too long sometimes for the trails I go on. My daily driver is a "not ford" short bed that I use to pull a gooseneck horse trailer. I can still haul drywall, but I have to have the tailgate down. Both are 1/2 ton trucks.
My next truck will be a 1 ton dually crew cab, but I can't say for sure that it'll be a long bed. I'd like to get one, but if it doesn't fit in the garage, I probably won't.
In the 3 years I've had my short bed, there were only a handfull of times I wish I had a long bed. So, I don't NEED one but I definately PREFER one.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Nov-02 AT 01:25 PM (EST)]Long bed! I had a lot of trouble finding a truck like I wanted- supercab, XLT, stick, and an 8 footer. I couldn't afford gas for an F-250 with as many highway miles as I'm driving.
I too get the "how can you park that long thing?" from people. It isn't that bad. In a lot I park out farther anyway. Door dings are more likely in those tighter spaces. With the longer wheelbase it also seems to ride better on rough gravel roads.
With regular cabs long beds are the only way to go, with super/crew cabs short beds. I think reg cab short bed just looks TOO short and a super/crew cab with a long bed looks way too long.
although i have a longbed, it might as well be a short bed with my tool box in it, so i say get the extended cab or four door SD with a short bed and put all your stuff under the back seat instead of a box, and it will look cooler cus you got the short bed, i can't believe they even make a short bed dually now, it looks kinda cool, but if i were to get a dually i think i'd get a long bed.
i think it's kinda funny to hear a bunch of guys talking about looks of a truck as a preference. i say get what you need. now i have a shortbed extracab. but if i had a choice i would have got a longbed extracab. my boyfriend and i ride dirtbikes and there's never enough room in a short bed.he has a short bed single cab 2.3 ranger. this we are working on turning into the ultimate prerunner. so short bed is the only way to go on that truck. so like i said it all depends on what you use it for.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Nov-02 AT 09:00 PM (EST)]My truck is just about all the pick-up you can by, and still call it a pick-up. F-350 CC LB DRW. Yeah, it takes some skill to drive it around town (Washington, DC), in rush hour traffic, and parking it is definitely a driving skills test. But for what I need, it is "The Ticket"!! Eventually, it will be pulling a 5th Wheel Toy Hauler for my Gold Wing and my wife's Silver Wing. Until then, I'll just enjoy the smooooother ride of the looonnngg wheelbase.
Besides, my Gold Wing can't be hauled in a short-bed (God forbid, it should ever need to be hauled like a Harley!!), and I'm to tall to comfortably sleep in a short-bed. SO, . . .
I wanted a long box when i got my truck but i ended up getting a short box instead. It's just right to me with the supercab. If i need to haul anything bigger i have the tow package and plenty of trailers at my disposal. But if i was to get a standard cab i would get the long box.
I have the supercab longbed combo. I love the cab room but the wheelbase makes it kinda hard to corner Also takes more room to turn around. I like the way it rides. Things I like and things I don't. I know where there is a supercab shortbed that I could fix up would take a lot of body/engine/transmission/ suspension work. Think I will keep mine the way it is
Short bed for me. all but one truck I've owned have been short beds. I think of long beds as grandpa trucks and work truck. My next truck will be a F350 crew cab short bed.Good for hualing the family but still short enough to plow with. The only long bed I will own is a F350 crew cab dually slamed to the ground.
