I have noticed that on my 2003 King Ranch, the air vents that go to the floor isn't working because when I push the button for only floor, it just comes out of the defrost vents. I wait a few minutes the valve to change to the floor, but it doesn't happen. Would anyone have any suggestions what may be wrong?
Thanks

The blend door on the EATC system is controlled by the EATC module.
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test
The EATC module self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A scan tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in addition to intermittent diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4º-32ºC (40º-90ºF) when performing the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false in-car temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.
To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.
If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, refer to the Symptom Chart Condition: The EATC System Is Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.
To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler temperature) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent DTCs and then turn OFF (display blank).
To exit self-test and clear all DTCs, press the DEFROST button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC control assembly will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.
Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF).
Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.
If you come up with a DTC, let me know. I will look it up to tell you what it means.
This sounds like the problem we are having with our 2003 Lariat. We're getting heat from the dash and defrost vents but nothing out of the floor vents. Does the above test apply to our truck also? Thanks!
I have the same problem... codes 12 and 61. I had it scanned by a ford tech and he said the code is actually 1261... I forgot what it said the issue was, perhaps the sunload sensor...
We tested the system for vacuum and it all holds fine. We came to the conclusion that I need a new head unit. Will be checking on prices tomorrow. I searched the net and could not find any descriptions for these codes. If anyone resolves this issue please update this thread. I will do the same.
DTC B1261 — A/C Solar Radiation Sensor Circuit Short to Ground.
The SRS is located behing the dash panel, right hand side. (There is a slotted grid on the dash just below the EATC head). The test for the SRS is as follows.
Disconnect the sensor connector, Use an ohmmeter to check accross the sensor terminals. Is the resistance greater than 0 ohms? No, then replace the sensor. Yes, then press the Automatic button with the truck on. Measure the DC voltage on the wiring harness between the brown and pink/black wires. Is the voltage between 4.7 and 5.1 Volts? Yes, then replace the EATC module. No, go back to the sensor and check the resistance across the sensor terminals. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? No, repair short in harness between the brown and pink/black wires. Yes, follow the brown wire to the EATC module. Measure the resistance on the brown wire to ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? No, repair the short to ground on the brown wire. Yes, replace the EATC module. Good luck!
Has anyone fixed this without replacing the control unit? My 2003 F150 will only blow AC from the dash when on vent ( I have the digital controls). Max AC blows out the defroster.
I am pretty sure it worked fine, atleast blowing from the dash before I installed an aftermarket single DIN stereo. The compressor needed replacing when I bought it, it was only blowing hot air.
Any idea what i might have hit with the radio, if that is what caused it?
Welcome to FTE fattiresc! You may want to pull the radio back out to see what you may have disturbed. Have you check the EATC for diagnostic trouble codes? Good luck!
Thank you. yes, I ran the ETAC diagnostics mentioned this morning. The cursor went around in a circle for about 20 seconds then went to the all icons on screen. I understand this means no codes are there. I will take the stereo out this weekend to see what if I did anything there. When I tested the AC at purchase it blew hot air from the dash, that is when I started digging around and found out that the compressor was shot. Guy was selling the truck in winter... probably for that reason. He knocked off a grand after supposedly calling his mechanic and finding out the cost. Anywho, I cant remember if I touched Max AC or vent, I would assume Max AC. So, it possible it was working before stereo install. What component located in the vacinity of the stereo head unit could cause this behavior? The Head Unit was the only thing replaced, there were no other wires run, aftermarket components, etc.
