I've got an 04 with 27k on it and on a very cold morning
10 degrees or colder just after she starts I hear a metallic
rap every so often until she idles up then it goes away and
it fine all the rest of the day. This is my first full winter with
the truck, got it last feb. so this was a new sound to me.
Anybody else have this situation?
That's a little difficult to diagnose. Cold morning cold starts these trucks can clank, clunk, spit, sputter, bump, bang, and raise all manner of comotion. Do you plug in the block heater? that might help some on cold starts and do you have the newest flash that cycles the injectors after shutdown to help with cold start issues? Just trying to pick your brain for a little more info here, and I'm sure a tech will step in shortly to try and answer your concerns.
I hear the same noises out of mine, if I don't plug it in. Its been colder than a witches titty out here. Plugging the block heater in will almost eliminate the typical clank, clank sound of a diesel engine. I'm not sure if I can notice any benefit from the new reflash, but it didn't hurt anything either.
