Back Window Electric Window Motor working / not working.

I recently pulled an electric motor and regulator scissor assembly (for the back window) from a 1979 Bronco at a junk yard. The wiring harness was kept complete and nothing was cut or damaged upon removal. I hooked it directly to a 12 volt battery when I got home and it went up and down with no problem. Once installed into another 79' Bronco, it will not bring the window up and down as it should. You have to really bang on the door hard to get it to work. Works flawlessy without the window glass, struggles big time with it. Any thoughts?

Realign the side tracks inside the t/g, and then align the t/g to the body/campershell. If your glass runs are hard & dry, replace them or at least wet them down with silicone lubricant.

Just for the record guys, while working on my 81 I got to pricing window motors for the rear, they ran a little higher than I really needed to spend at the time. Got to scrapping around out in the junkyard behind my shop and noticed the passenger side motors on a 86 crown vic, I had bought for engine parts, looked the same. Installed one in the rear Bronco door and it worked fine, plugin wires were the same. Might come in handy to know. Whit

I've noticed that with my 90 Bronco sometimes that darn window just won't go down. I thoughht it was my motor acting up. When I pushed on the tailgate and at the same tome turned the button the window came down. It turned out the tailgate was working itself free due to not enough lubrication on the hinges. I now give it a quick squirt of silicone spray once a week!

It's always a good idea to clean and re-align the tracks. Also, there is a "limit switch"(not sure that is the right name). When the strikers on your talgate latches become worn, the tailgate pops just a little out of place, and the switch will not send power to the motor. Replacing the latches or wrapping them with electrical tape will fix that problem. Sometimes the smallest things will create the biggest problems.

The tape trick is only if your motor doesn't do anything, and it's temporary at best. A few cycles of the latch opening & closing, and the tape will be shredded.

Can you hear your motor spinning at regular speed even while the glass has stalled? If so, it's the drive gear's vibration damper, and you can get a repair kit from Ford for about $15. If not, it's a glass/tailgate/camper alignment problem causing the glass to bind in the tracks inside the t/g or the groove in the campershell. Use the 7/16" (11mm) bolts on the sides of the t/g to align the t/g tracks; use the strike bolts to align the t/g to the camper; & make sure your camper is fully installed & tightened down to the body with ALL its bolts.
