Rear Window Stuck
Rear Window Stuck
I have a '92 Bronco and earlier today, the rear window cut out. It is about two-thirds of the way up. I checked the voltage on the wiring to the motor and it is fine. I also replaced the fuses and they are fine. I'm guessing it's the motor. I can replace it but the problem is where the window stopped.
Any ideas on how to either get it up or down so that I can get access to the motor?
Any help would really be appreciated.

Your motor is fine. Try this, lean up against the tailgate with all your weight. At the same time turn the key, your window will now come down. It does this due to lack of lubrication by the hinges and the hinges are not fully grabbing there latches. LET ME KNOW IF THIS FIXED YOUR PROBLEM!

Blownbronco has a good point, dirty or sticky latches will keep the gate from lining up correctly and the misalignment will stall the window. I had this problem when I replaced my tailgate. The window would only go up so far (about 2/3rds as I recall). The new gate and the old striker post locations were off just enough to allow the latches to engage but bind the window on its upward path. I ended up not only cleaning the latches but shifting the striker posts just a touch to correct the alignment.

Thanks for the tip ... I tried the leaning on method and did not get the desired results. Looking in my manual it talks about a lockout rod that needs to be reset. What does this look like and if I reset it, will the window come crashing down on my hands?
I'm thinking this may be it because it seems as though the latch inside the truck is partially released. This, I think, may be the cause of the window stoppage?

If the motor is still trying to work, but the glass is just binding up, then you probably need to adjust the strike bolts with a T-50 bit so the t/g slot lines up with the camper groove.
If the motor is spinning, but it's sorta popping, then the transmission inside the motor needs to be rebuilt.
If the motor isn't even trying to spin, then the driver's side latch is probably not closing on the strike bolt enough to close the saftey switch, and you need to adjust that bolt or short the switch.

Thanks for the helpful hints everyone. I was able to fix it this afternoon. I removed the rear glass at the actuator arms (four nuts)and was able to loosen the motor enough to reset the actuator gears. It turns out that the motor is fine but the wire leading from the connection had a short (only tested the connection yesterday because I couldn't figure out the window).
Bad news about the day was that I decided that since I had everything out, might as well go ahead and just put a new motor in. Well, after two after market motors (both were junk - one wouldn't fit and the other didn't have threads for the bolts!), I decided to return the old one to where it longed to be.
Good as new!
