Finally decided it was time to break down and spend the money to get the gauges. Ordered the DIY kit from ITP. at $121 dollars cheaper I can assemble them myself (took about an hour to assemble and wire the actual gauge pod) so I feel $121/hr pretty decent wages personally. I was suprised how easy the entire install actually went real well even the part I was dreading the drilling and tapping the exhaust manifold was a lot easier than I expected, but will say I was glad I spent the money to go out and get new drill bits sure made it easier.
I also ordered the overboost annihilator and HPX kit from him, also easy installs and work great.
The overboost issue even with one of those cheaper code eliminator blow off valves installed was the major reason to go ahead and buy the gauges. actual was going to anyway but had to wait until back from vacation to make sure I could spend the money. But ever since I installed the 5" exhaust it's been setting the light even with part throttle acceleration.
Well I found out why the constant light was on, even at part throttle I am pushing 25psi of boost, at full throttle like passing it jumps to 29+psi. Heck even on cruise control it will push 22-24psi climbing a hill locally. Best part was my EGT's even when holding it at max boost and letting it climb on the speedo it never climbed above 1050deg, but the wife did say now she remembers why she doesn't go on test drives with me. Did that up by the airport running north on a flat straight road, and watching the pyro and the road, I noticed that the truck started to feel a little light, and the wife was digging finger prints into the door handle I looked down the speedo was buried way past 100mph, oops forgot that the tuner disabled the speed limiter.
One other thing I noticed is today I took it for a 25mile drive to warm it up so I could change the oil, well the trans temp gauge never moved. I thought maybe something wasn't hooked up right so climbed under the truck to check and felt the pan, which was still cold to the touch. I actually had to ride the brakes under power to disable the lockup converter and put some pressure on the trans to get it to start climbing, that tells me a couple things first the cooler is a dang good unit on these things, second my trans must be in decent shape so as not to be slipping enough to warm up the fluid.
That is good to hear that it is installed correctly. If you can, adjust the wastegate to not allow you to build more than 25-26psi of boost. Sure the boost number sounds cool, but it's just wasting energy, and it's very inefficient past 25psi. The transmission takes a while to warm up, as it holds 5 gallons of fluid. A long time to warm up, and a long time to cool down as well. If the temperatures are below 50* out, i would bet that the needle would barely move enough to register on the gauge.
Hey Monsterbaby, we have a couple things in common, Installed my gauges today as well. Everything went well with mine too, only thing I didnt get the pyro hooked up, the wire is in the engine compartment coiled up. I was tired and I was affraid i was gonna screw sometging up if I tried to do it. My trans was bearly reading also, I pulled the gauge from the pod because I thought I pinched a wire or something, but I took it for a longer drive and Stepped on it and It just went over 100, Funny, my idiot gauge was half way between C - H and my new gauge was bearly braking 100. Glad I installed it.
Good to hear everything went well. I'll be installing my guages tomorrow. I also chose to do the assembly myself, couldn't see paying someone to do a simple job.
