I was getting ready to purchase my gauges from a website and I was told that I would need a "Boost Relief Valve" if I planned to "Chip" my truck eventually.
Here's the claim from the website:
The SES light for overboost will come on at about 25 lbs. causing the PCM to decrease fuel delivery attempting to control the boost. This condition usually occurs in "chipped" vehicles. Our BRV(Boost Relief Valve) will relieve any excess pressure over 16 lbs. to the map sensor, while allowing the engine to receive full boost. No more SES light and full fuel delivery through all RPM and boost ranges.
From what I gather the boost gauge would not read more than 16 psi.
I've read some threads were folks have seen the boost on their gauge go to 24 - 30 psi and even higher.
Nowhere in any threads have I read anything about this relief valve. Is this valve really needed ??

Thanks for the replies. So no one is getting an overboost check engine light and losing power if they exceed 25 psi of boost.
So the following statement from a diesel website has no merit ?
The SES light for overboost will come on at about 25 lbs. causing the PCM to decrease fuel delivery attempting to control the boost.
Not here. Like I said, the diesel tech had his computer hooked up, saw 31lb boost and said that was good. No warning lights. I expect the posted statement does not apply to our 6.0Ls.
