I just finished installing my 4" SS MBRP this morning. Everything is on and clamped up good but one concern I do have the the first pipe after the down pipe seems to "lay" on the tranny crossmember Even after all the re-adjustment i tried It still seemed to want to "lay" on the crossmember. Any body have the situation too? And will it cause a wearing in that spot and causing a hole? OR is there something I can shimm in there to prevent this. It dosent vibrate or rattle, at least not yet. Just a concern... thanks Jeff
Yes I had this issue with mine and my Father's 99 during install. IMO, you need to loosen the DP, the clamp at the bottom of the DP and the clamp behind the tranny crossmember. Then move stuff around until it clears and tighten it down. Two people are better because the DP can be held in place while securing the clamps in place.
After seeing the close clearence on my Father's I did this:
I held the tranny and crossmember with a floor jack. Those two bolt heads close to your beautiful MBRP system are tacked together by a joining flat plate. So, if you remove the nuts, they come out together. I was surprised. I then put them in a vise and ground them off to just above the tack holding them to the plate/bracket. Because they're tacked, you don't have to worry about putting a wrench on them to tighten the nuts when you put it back together. This gave me a big'ol clearance.
well i installed a 4inch mbrp torbo back and had the same problem i think once i had it all together i used 2 people and losened down pipe at torbo and had that second person move the whole exhust and hold it while i tighten it hope this helps.
mine rubs to never thought about grinding them down. I just stuck a piece of folded up cardboard between the pipe and cross member cause i didnt want it to rub a hole in it
If you want, tomorrow afternoon I'll get under there and snap a pic of how much clearence there is with them ground off. Don't get me wrong. If you tweak and twist stuff just right it will clear. I bet most on here haven't done what I did. I just did it for the "extra" peace of mind.
You need to re adjust it. You didn't have the down pipe at the correct angle when you tightened up the clamp and now the clamp will make it hard to get it where you want it and make it stay there. Be sure you rotate the down pipe up toward the floor with the 1st clamp joint loose enough that it doesn't bind up as you rotate the down pipe. If it binds over time and road holes it will drop back down to the cross member.
