that is why he doesn't wear seatbelts. He can fly out the front of the truck and avoid getting crushed by the weights.

Considering that a 3/8 70 chain is rated at a WORKING load of 6600 lbs, and a 3/8 chain binder is rated for 5,000 lbs, and the d rings are bolted thru the floor of the body with a plate underneath, rated at I believe 5,000 each I am not using any of it past 1/5 of its rated working (not breaking) load rating.
I know that in an accident I would worry about the stickers coming off the rear window and giving me a paper cut than the weight cutting through the cab and box.
And for what its worth I don't ever go without the seatbelt.

Just thought I'd let you know

Thanks.
i did this for a friend of mine with his hide away gooeneck hitch..i built a box out of steel with a 4" lip all the way around it..and welded a 4" square stock to the bottom of it that fits right in where the ball go's and drilled a hole where the pin locks it..we filled it with cement blocks....he plows alot so he needed something that wouldnt slide around...that was 5 years ago and he is still useing it...now he wants me too make it taller and put a lid on it so he can put in jumper cables, chains and a chain saw with gas and oil for them windy days and keep it locked up..and still have the blocks in the bottom..

That pretty much sounds like the way to go.

The biggest part that sucks about the sand tubes is that they will slide around when they freeze. I am thinking that I may put them in the tool box for the time being.

480 lbs makes a huge difference in the driveablility of the truck in snow and ice. I am already planning on getting two more tubes, which will put it up to 600 lbs. I am not against adding more if that improves the final out come.

I find my self driving around with my hubs locks quite a bit lately, but actually using 4x4 is few and far between. Typically only to climb hills that have ice on them(driveways and parking lots). Other than that, it's 2 wheel drive.

it works great for him..just a pain if you need to use the bed for something un expacted ..i dont put any weight back there other then whats in my tool box..i leave my hubs locked all winter unless im on the big road for alot of miles.and i greese the front end and shafts every oil change.. when i pull into a spot i think ill need it...or if i hit a snow storm. thats a commen thing here..drive in the sun and dry roads then all of a sudden hit a snow storm just enouph to make roads slippry..ill pull the lever ..thats what it is there for..
