The van just turned over 100K, and we had a warm (48 degrees!) day, so I took ad-van-tage (I'm just hilarious, ain't I) of the opportunity to replace all the pads, front and back. This will not be a missive on the process, I just wanted to share that both the Haynes manual and official Ford service manual fib about the tools needed. You will need a T-45 (I like the kind that fits a 3/8 socket, makes it easier to torque) to remove the front caliper, and a 13mm for the back. Not surprisingly, these are the same tools needed when I helped a friend with the brakes on his '03 Excursion. BTW, all pads had worn evenly and still had life, but the back pads were the closest to being shot. I went with Wagner's Extreme Duty pads, I'll let the forum know how that decision works out, but my quick tests look good.
Nope, not this time. Probably coulda/shoulda, but that would've greatly extended the scope of this little project. Having said that I DID check one each front and rear, and both looked great. They were packed ummm... about 18K ago.
No missive necessary. T-45 to remove the caliper was all the information I needed to get from the toolbox to the job. Ain't it nice when somebody audibles the tool size?
