Ok so i have a 1994 FlareSide.. my grandfather droe it for about 3 years till i got it so it hasnt been beat on... I was planning on runnion the truck at the drag strip, see what i can pull... would it be a bad idea to push the truck that hard when it hasnt really been opened up in a few years. Could i break something big or completely blow the engine?
at first make sure to drive the truck around in a normal style for a while, then slowly open it up.
if the truck has been driven slow, and then parked awhile, dont be suprised if some black carbon junk blows out the exhaust the first time you hammer it. as long as theres no huge problems with the truck it should be fine to run at the track.
i run my trucks locally every now and then. if you have any big oil leaks it may be a good idea to run the truck through a car wash and blast the motor off before getting to the track, most tracks have some kind of inspection before alowing you to run. their inspection isnt that big of a deal, if my 82 f100 passed anything should.
im sure your truck will be fine, ive beat the crap outof mine countless times and they always seem to get me home.
As long as the truck does not have any hidden problems (oil pump, tranny etc) and all the fluids are topped off and fresh, run it, it will do it some good. If you do develope a problem either during or after I would say that it was going to happen anyway it just happen to be when you were there.
One word of caution; make sure you are running the truck daily or there abouts for at least a month before you go repeatedly WOT. Rear main seals as well as all the other gaskets do dry out and will get brittle and fail when hit with sustained high pressure oil from a tach'ed out engine. Running the engine regularly keeps the seals wet and pliable.
LOL yeh thanks... ive only spung one leak and that was in the cooland lines... 6 in hose or shorter on the front of the engine, got it fixed for like 3 buks LOL
The big issue with grandpa to racecar is the ridge that the rings make in the cylinder when a engine is run easy compared to running it hard. My guess is that a grandpa didn't drive much so I wouldn't worry much. Was it new or was there another driver before grandpa?
should be fine i got my truck from my dad that never hammer it and i mean never!!!... i got it open her a few times let the carbon / black smoke out and its running better than ever exept the idle problem :S... its good to open your truck once in a while to let the old carbon out..
