I wouldn't take it in until you try the methods mentioned earlier, and see if that fixes it. A diesel won't ever perform like a gasser off the line but when that turbo spools, look out, and hang on!!!
Hey Corporal, I've noticed that the 6.0 responds better when pulling a load or on an incline/hill. At my last job the freeway on ramp was downhill and from a stop my truck would lag. From a slow roll headed down the ramp it reacted even worse! Rolling into the throttle as referred to in previous posts is the better way to get the truck moving quickly.
If you really want to feel the launch, press the brake at a stop, floor the throttle and then release the brake. This will cause billowing clouds of tire smoke from the wheelwells. You may want to wait until it's time for new tires to boil 'em though.
I agree with the "roll on method",I don't really ever just floor it from a dead stop.I've been driving diesels for a couple of years now and figured out that my truck is so much faster off the line with the "roll on method" rather than just flooring it.I think it's just turbo lag your feeling.Just my 02 cents.
I'm beginning to think that.. When I get off and it's warmed up I will try the roll on method and see what I do.. Would be nice if my gauges were in.. I guess every little squeak and bump worries me.. I'll be frank, this is the first expensive vehicle I have every owned.. I'm 25 and I just happen to get a good job that pays well enough to have something like this.. College does wonders LOL
Same here. Rolling into the throttle, I get great response. The few times I've just kicked it wide open from a stop (in the same situation as yours) I've almost gotten ran over. In my opinion, it is the turbo-lag and is normal, although not desireable.
I've always been an advocate of rolling on the power vs. just tromping it. Trust me....I can lay rubber for as long as I hold the pedal down, but I get soooooooo much better results "easing" down the pedal.
Yeah, the rolling throttle is the best technique. The 6.0 doesnt like to be floored all at once. They used to refer to it as a dead pedal issue. It was very bad on my '03 but it is almost nonexsistent in my '06. Everyone keeps referring to turbo lag in the 6.0 and to me that too is almost nonexistent. My turbo spools right up.
More than likely its the tires on your F550 that are helping you spin them up. If I'm not mistaken they have a non agressive grooved tread and are a very hard compound. At least the F550's I've seen do. My tires feel like claws in the ground, at least when it's dry out
