Thinking of doing 6637 mod.....just a few ???'s What about a cover..do I need a sock or something for it ? All the pics I see show an exposed filter. What about water on or around . If i wanted to wash under the hood ?( not that I ever had before ). I see alot of pro's ...what about the cons... noise is not issue... I'd love to hear the turbo more and I'll turn up the Radio more when needed. Please let me know...thx.
For a cover you could also do the "pop mod" https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...637-cover.html . If you wanted to wash under the hood you would want to remove the filter before hand. But when you washing under there its allways good to remove some things that get in the way, or mght get damaged by water. Oh and you'll love to hear that turbo sing, its a nice added bonus.
Definitely do the $20 big 6637 filter on your truck,it'll breathe mucho better.
I place a plastic bag over the element when cleaning under the hood for protecting from water splash but getting an outerwears pre filter is the way to go to catch larger dirt particles first.
You can run a cover if you want but its not really needed in my experience. as far as water when washing my engine compartment (yes I do it regularly) I just use a plastic sheet of some sort and just wrap it around the filter and wash away. If napa is still get the filter from donaldson as my last filter was it had a "duralite" sticker on it which is donaldson's patented filter media that is water repellant and sheds water very well.
Pete has been throwing some ideas around for a 6637 prefilter.
As far as washing under the hood, a plastic wally world bag and a zip tie work great. just remember to remove it before driving.
