Porto power kits

Looking to purchase portable power collision kits for small auto body repair. Set includes pump and assortment of attachments and not sure whether to purchase 4 or 10 ton set. Came across reasonably priced 4 ton but want to make sure it can do the job. Any input appreciated.

It would probably work as long as it has the duck-bill and ultra-small jack to get into tight spaces. I would keep a close eye on the o-rings at the connections as well, I have had a few of the cheaper ones pop and leak from there.

Not familiar with these kits. Now considering putting money into a quality "flat body ram kit" for the tight areas, and less expensive, not poor quality, porta power kit, with assorment of attachments to include the 'duck bill'. Food for thought, appreciate the input.

I have a Blackhawk brand 4-ton and it has done all I've ever asked it to. I also have a ten ton and I haven't needed it nearly as much. The 4-ton is perfect for body work and alignment of heavy metal angles and structural things. I'd like to add the Pull-back hook arrangement for it. I think that would round out the kit very well.

Interesting, actually decided on 4 ton Blackhawk kit but noticed in catalog description the item is imported with the Blackhawk name. Impressed with kit compared to other brands. Perhaps I can find local distributor and take a look at it, don't like paying the extra money for the name when a product is imported. Thanx for the info.

I have a 4 ton no-name porta-power that I use for our race cars. It's done everything from pushing around sheet metal, to roll cages to even frame rails (with a little help from the torch). I'd say you should be fine with it.

Appreciate the info. Next couple days intend taking drive to auto tool supply shop and check out what they have. Like the idea of including the 'pull back' bar, 'mini jack', and it sounds like the 4 ton will fit my needs, and oh ya, do have a torch. Thanks for the suggestions.

Shin Fu is the company that bought Porto-Power. They supply the majority of kits in the US under Craftsman, Omega, Banner, and OTC's Stinger. I have the Craftsman 10 ton kit and it is identical to the Mac and Matco kits right down to the stamped part numbers on the couplers and pump.

FYI, most pull cylinders are 10 ton. Most pancake cylinders are 4 ton. 10 ton cylinders and pumps use 3/8" couplers and 4 ton use 1/4" couplers. The couplers are standard across the board, but there is a difference in seals and casting quality.

Shin Fu America is based in Kansas City, Mo and builds to original Blackhawk Porta-Power standards.

jbullfrog, appreciate the thread, would have ended up with a 4 ton porto kit and a 'pull cylinder' that would have been of little use. Believe will have more use for the mini, or 'flat body rams' than for the pull cylinder so likely will go with the 4 ton kit. Browsing online came across couple reasonable priced kits, the clarification on manufacturers helps in making a choice. Appreciate everyone's input.
