i have a problem with my 05 e450...it actually has to do with the body installed on it...the problem is that since new the power door locks for
the utility doors malfunction...within a couple weeks of buying i went back to get it looked at and was told to give it time to 'break in'...it didnt take long for some doors to be completely stuck...so recently i went to have all the automatic door locks replaced only to have the same
problem...when i talked to them it sounds as if they dont want to deal with it anymore...they have redesigned locks that have a key override but they r not willing to switch...should i talk to the dealer i bought it from, discuss a buyback, lemon, etc...i dont know what to do and i am
feed up with the $1100 payment for a truck that locks my tools inside
in addition, if i keep the doors unlocked the locks will drain the battery down...i was shocked to hear that was normal
What a stupid thing to tell you, door locks get worse with age, not better. Have never worked on a new 2000+ E-series, I assume this has some kind of utility body, here is what I would tell you if it was an older one.
The hole in the trim panel where the lock button passes through is off center and jamming the linkage. A way to test this is to remove the button and just leave the rod sticking through.
If the panel is solid plastic and not soft fabric with a metal insert around the rod you might get by with just reaming the hole out a bit bigger.
It sounds like it's not the Ford end that is the problem. Who made the body? Knapheid, Stahl, or some other company? You might want to go talk to a lawyer and see about the "lemon" law, it may or may not apply to your situation. They may also be able to write you a "letter of intent" that may get the point across that this is not a problem that is going to go away. I has a similar issue with a Ford dealer (they're no longer in business) that I purchased a cargo van from. A lot of persistence on my end got the problem fixed.
