2003 F-350 6.0 psd 4x4 with auto trans and 62,000 miles. The torque converter seems to be slipping when shifting from 3rd gear to 4th. I noticed it about 2 weeks ago and it only happend once then it started to happen every so often. Now it is happening just about every time. The truck runs fine and no lights are coming on. When the truck shifts into fourth gear under normal load it sounds like the rpms are shooting up real quick before the trans slips into gear but the tack shows no rpm raise. I think it is just the TC slipping. Any one have a suggestion? Thanks
Bought the truck used w/ 40000 on it, have put about 20000 and have not changed fluid but assume that was done prior to ford re-selling it. Have an edge juice tuner, turbo back exhaust and s&b air filter and box.
1) Change the fluid and external filter as they are required every 30k.
2) Try running without the Edge. I don't own one, but unless its actually tuning the transmission for the new power levels, it could be contributing to its failure.
On Edit: As you don't know if its been changed before, I'd recommend dropping the pan and inspecting for friction material or other debris as well. I would suggest a complete flush, but the odds are any lube shop or dealer doing a flush would not inspect it very closely.
Thanks Mark, I will change the filter and fluid in the trans. As for the tuner, it is supposed to program shift points and so on for the tranny. I think maybe it is the fluid or filter because it stopped doing it as the truck ran throughout the day.
