Charter, my guess is that you have C8AE-H heads on your engine, which are supposed to have 68-72cc chambers. If I might ask, why are you checking Summit for pistons ? Can't your machinist get you whatever you want in a piston ? If this is the same guy who recommended the 381P as a 9&1/2 or 10 to one piston, and thinks the RPM manifold is too much, you might want to give serious consideration to finding someone else. The RPM intake is still a dual plane and is very happy on top of a truck engine. The regular edel performer offers no advantage over stock iron and I wouldn't give you nickle for one. If you are getting it for free, then fine run it because it is aluminum and weighs less. But if you are buying, buy the performer RPM or a sidewinder or an F-427 or a Blue Thunder. Dino,my machinist is a good guy the biggest problem is me!! I told him I wanted this 390 to have a lot of lowend torque and the best fuel milage possible as cheap as possible. Don,t get me wrong,I want it done right. The heads I dropped off are D2EA-AA they need all seats ,valves, springs, some guides and keepers. So he asked about other heads that may not need as much I'm giving him a set of C7AE-A hopfully these will be better and a lot cheaper than the $600 for the D2's.Now after reading through the posts in this forum, and my brother bustin my chops about his hemi powerwagon I ready to bust his dodge! Is it possible to get 350 HP out of this 390 on 89 octane?
If you shop around, it's possible to pickup fresh rebuilt sets of D2TE heads for $200 or so. Try Ebaymotors for one. I run across these in lots of other places as well.
