On a different note of why they don't have a 4 speed ready for the F150 yet...maybe Ford is trying to save some $$ and squeeze another couple of years out of the 4 speed? They are hurting for cash, probably why there hasn't really been any changes to the truck since the '04 came out. The 2007 looks pretty much like the 2004 to most people. I guess they know they are #1 and can max all they can out of one model of the F150 and people will keep buying them.
...the Allison Transmission is quite impressive. Much better than the outdated trans that Ford uses. JMHO!
Outdated? The TorqShift is state of the art and was brand new in '02. It is by no means outdated. It rates above the Allison by many who tow heavy and is an excellent tranny!
I said the gearing might go to 3.33 or 3.55 because the gears 1-4 would be geared alot lower than the 1-3 gears are right now. you won't need the low ratio's (4.10) to tow a load and the higher ratios will help out the mpg.
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 4th gear is .70 right now. imagine 5 other gears before that final gear that are properly matched for towing and still allow a high rear end gearset.

I am talking F-150 here.... as far as I have seen and know the torqueshift trans is not available to us. A 6 speed would be great.
Tylus.... I was assuming a double OD unit. That would be nice if they geared the trans in a way that we could utilize 5 speeds instead of 3 while towing, but I feel that they should keep it at atleast 3.73. I know personally that this truck is in need of some different gearing while towing. 3 speed tops, in the hills you got more like 2.... depending on what your towing. Like I stated before.... V6 diesel, 6 speed (that we can actually utilize) and Fords great styling...... Where do I sign up!
Fordman... the Allison is a 6 speed trans and I believe that put behind the PSD in the SD trucks would be untouchable. That is about the only thing that is appealing from the entire GM line. The rest is just ho-hum GM. I am still curious to see how well the 6.4 twin turbo'd PSD is going to do. Do a search for 08 F-450 and take a look at that! That is one hell of a truck! Great interior with gobs of payload and towing capacity!
I have a Torqueshift in my F350 dually, and it seem to be a good trans. Put 25,000 miles on it with no problems. It is 2006. The trans uses new Mercon SP trans fluid. Have to make sure who ever services your trans, that they know to use SP fluid and not MerconV.
