Can a dana 60f be made from a rear dana 60? If so what are the drawbacks/benefits?

Yeah, but it would cost more in the long run (unless you have free parts lying around) for an inferior axle compared to a stock front D60. Theres an interesting thread though on Pirate about a guy who grafted dana 50 TTB knuckles onto a rear D61, stuffed 35 spline axles in it and slung it under his bronco. It looks fugly, but is an interesting build

anything CAN be done, but is it worth your time and money? you'd have to basically get to know a good machine shop and have them help you do a lot of the work!

unless you are going for the cool factor, but if thats the case go with a more exotic axle!

I would love to find a set of portal axles, like the ones from a Mercedes Unimog! They're tough, low geared, and offer tons of ground clearance. Now if only I could get coin to afford a set, I would gladly stuff them under my 77 High Boy. You mentioned a more exotic axle, that was the first one to come to my mind... just my 2 cents.

funny you mention that, lol i thought the exact same thing. i'd run'em except parts availability! i know i coud get a set of 404's but if i ever broke a portal or something i would not wanna shell out that kind of cash! prolly be just as cheap to buy another axle! lol

Yeah tell me about it, everytime I see or hear anything about Unimog axles I hear a cash register ring! The ground clearance you get is just bad a$$!
