tranny problems

tranny problems
98 f150 4x4 5.4 auto just bought it and when i put in any gear, nutreal and reverse included it goed forward had it scanned and it says all shifting as the shifter says, but only goes forward,the tranny pan is badly smashed but full of fluid and red what could be wrong

Sounds like the problem i had....is there any metal in the tranny pan? I had a bering come apart and ruin the transmission, and got metal into everything.
