i have a 2000 cc v10 f250 4x4 that when the truck is sitting and i am trying to turn the wheel it will not budge the dealer replaced the power steering pump and it still did not help it is full of fluid checked that first. the mechanic said that it was normal because of the trucks weight . but with a truck that needs a empty parking lot to turn into or out of a spot it can be frustrating when you move it turns no problem if you stop to change direction the wheel will not move after that either any help please
Pretty much normal, esp with big tires. Something I would suggest is changing the powersteering fluid. It is hydroscopic so as it gets wet/old it absobs water and it's effiency is reduced.
I actually have not turned the steering wheel without letting the truck inch up or back as I turn. I do it out of habit I guess but can give it a try next time to see if it's a normal thing.
you can take some friction modif that you use in a limited slip rear end and addit to the power steering pump make sure to take enough fluid out to add it to it
With today's systems the wheels have to be turning in order to turn the steering wheel. Makes no difference whether it is a 250, 350, 450, etc. The truck has to be rolling slightly in order to turn the steering wheel.
My 99 F250 SD 4x4 has the same problem. It has the same size tires as the day I got it. The PS has gotten progressively more difficult through the years.
When I first got it I could turn the wheels lock to lock with ease. Now I have to get the truck in motion any time the pavement is dry. If it's wet or snowy I don't have a bit of trouble, so I don't think anything is broken.
I thought I might change the pump this year to see if that fixes it, but I haven't really looked hard at the system to see what else it might be. I'll think at it before I start throwing money around.

yes i have used it and it has help because if you go to buy a new truck and cant turn the steering wheel while sitting still i dontknow of to many people that would buy it
Okay, got out this AM and tried it. Mine turns end to end standing still too. Of course, you can feel it is tighter than if you let the truck inch/let up on the brake up as your turn, but it does work though.
