Well, I had been looking for months to see what anyone had done with a subwoofer in a crew cab that was not a shallow mount like i had (Pioneer) since it was just not enough bass. Figured I will post what I did for anyone else looking for another option. Decided I was going to run 2 JL 8" W7's. This sub is about the perfect size. You could easily run one and it would look awesome and run great but really wanted the bass. So i custom made a box (actaully two of them one for each so that i can take one out and stuff) to go behind the back seats. You can see picture links at the bottom of the post. But The ideal thing would to run one of these and put it right in the center and it does look great, and still basically have the whole back seat. I know i usually never have 3 people in the back. But with two it does get a little crowded but still can get two people in the back.
I went the easy route. I have an alpine v12 amp in front of the center console under the dash that powers a full range kicker box (2 12" subs and 2 horns) that sits on about 1/2 to 2/3rds if the back seat.
For my non-audiophile ear I think its great sound... And when I need the whole back seat I usually am not cranking music so I just pull the box and throw it in the back of the truck and tape the wire ends and tuck them behind the seat.
I could snap a pic if anyone wants.
Plus the great thing about having the full range box is I have enough extra length on the wire to pull it out set it on top of the tonneau cover when I"m tailgating or partying outside.
I had a Bazooka tube in my last CC. It was great, and fit behind the rear seat.
It even comes with an adjustment dial so you can crank the base up or turn it down depending on your mood, or who is rideing with you.
They are self amplified so you can run it off the factory tuner. They also come in different sizes depending on your needs.
For the money they are the best IMO. I plan on doing thesame in mhy new truck.
I am working on a center console to house 2 15" mtx 9500 subs. It goes from the dash to the rear seat. It also has a 17" lcd monitor that works with a full computer. Here is a link to a couple of pics of the start of it. Hoping to get most of it finished and hooked up tomorrow. All the wires are in place, just have to finish the wood and fiberglass and someday paint it.
I installed a Kenwood KSC-SW1 powered sub which are two 6.5 inch speakers.
It fits under the driver seat.
Perhaps not as great as others but improved the sound and I can feel it.
Nice clean install, I like the tweeters in the A pillars. In my '03 I had a Bazooka behind my CC seat and it worked out ok, but it just fit. I didnt even try to put it in my '06 because there appears to be less room behind the rear seat. I think this is because in the '03 only the seat back pulled forward, in the '06 the back folds down and the bottom folds up. I've been looking for something that will fit in there, but so far no luck. I believe I heard that the '08 has a factory sub available as an option.
I've got a Alpine dvd in dash dva310 with a second DVD player with a 10.5 obverhead in the rear. Its powered by 2 ppi a600 amps. One PPI A 600 runs 4 JL Audio 10" subs. The other PPI A600 power Front 6.5 Boston Pros and the Rear 6.5 Boston Pros. The ways its set up is you can watch one movie though both monitors or watch one movie up front with the sound coming through the speakkers and watch a second movie at the same time on the overhead monitor and use headphones.
Do you drop the rear seat down every time you use the subs? I'm wondering how the speaker can function while being jammed against the back side of the seat. BTW, not trying to bash, just fishing for ideas, as I'm wanting to place a sub behind the rear seat myself.
Blue .. a subwoofer doesn't have to have "open air" in front to hear the sound. The frequency is very very low and is just for low punch / bass / etc . It's considered omnidirectional. So no the seat doesn't matter.
I know that the area in front of the sub doesn't necessarily need to be open, but from the pic, it looks like the cone is being firmly pressed into the carpet in the resting position. Doesn't the cone move outwards when operating?
