Can anyone tell me how the column shifter works? My problem is when i picked up my truck from the paint shop. they had broken the column shifter inside the truck. so I am unable to shift the gears inside the truck. I removed the broken column shift sleeve and while i wait for the new one. i still cant get the linkage outside to move when I turn the shift tube inside the column. Would it (or could it) have also broken further down inside the column or does the shift sleeve have to push the tube down to engage the linkage outside?
Theres an arm near the bottom of the column just the other side of the firewall that connects to a linkage on the tranny itself...could have come off there or even on the tranny....do a search for posts about columns I know Dennis has put up some diagrams in the past of how it all goes together. Also if youcan find a Chiltons manual they have pics that help too. Also dont forget..if your trying to move it w/ the tube...you have to mimick the moevment of the selector as well ie push up or pull down on all the stuff that needs moved haha.
