Talking Can I upgrade to automatic climate control?

I have a 06 F350 XLT that comes with the standard heater and a/c *****. The Lariat style comes with dual-zone automatic climate control.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Is it possible to install the automatic climate control in my XLT?

<o></o>

Thanks

Most of the wiring harnesses are the same in the trucks. Some plugs used and others are not but a dual climate system might be a bit different.

If I remember right, someone in the Explorer Forum priced out the parts to do this on an '04 XLT awhile back; along with over $1100 for hardware (new), the labor required was pretty extensive. Apparently there's a lot more involved than just changing out some dash controls.

I found some posts relating to this topic.

The bottom line is it would make more sense to buy a new truck if i want climate control.

thanks for the responses.

Yeah, unless you have lotsa time and $$$ and plan on keeping your truck forever, it isn't a practical update.

Automatic Climate control is actually a downgrade.

When its so easy to twist the **** yourself if you are cooking or sweating.

for that matter, the only I find thing missing in the manual climate control is the leaver that changed the air intake from the outside to recieving circulated air from within the cab.

Is there a way to hack this somehow to avoid breathing trafic smoke??

Eyesham -

Unless the export F-350s are different, you've got a recirc setting on your controls. Do you have the Owner's Guide?

I think MAX A/C will give you recirculation.

You could install a switch in the A/C compressor clutch circuit, or just unplug it for winter.

but apart from turning the A/C on, the "MAX A/C" also cancels the temperature control ****, meaning that if i unplug the compressor, maybe it wont blow freezing A/C air, but i wont be able to bring on the heat...

Yeah, I forgot that in MAX A/C the valve that allows coolant flow to the heater core is shut off by vacuum (in my Explorer anyway). Hopefully, a HVAC expert will chime in here with a way to get recirc for you.
