9 quart Oil Pan

I was wondering if anyone had installed a 370 9 quart oil pan on a 460 f250 4x4 before? My mechanical said it works fine and has built in baffles. Does anyone have any experience with this sucker? I was thinking that if it wasn't two close to the diff or cross member 9 is better than 6??

I've got one on my pulling truck. It is a 79 F250 frame and has plenty of clearance. I have also used one on a 77 F150 and had good clearance. Be sure and use the oilpump pickup for that pan.

Here is a link to Price Motorsport. They sell them new for $96. There is also a picture showing what they look like from the side. I have bought some stuff from them and they were really nice people.

Hmmmm, I bought a new oilpan online (sorry, I got in trouble the last time I mentioned the company that sent me a wrong part) and it was too deep to fit in my 89 F250 460. It seemed too deep in front preventing it to go in at the same engine hieght that the old pan came out at. The old pan slide right back in.

Is there markings on the pan somewhere stating the 'size'? A code maybe?

The front is 7-1/2" deep and the rear is 9-3/4" deep. The distance from the front of the pan to where it changes depth isabout 10-1/2".

Excellent help Greenhighboy! I was going to have to go out to my buddys shop and measure up the one on his old 3 ton ford bobcat truck! Now I just need to go under my truck and measure up the distances off the existing pan which is a 390 pan.

I am hoping that the 460 block is not as deep as the 390, being a Y block and all. Hopefully the 460 sits up a bit taller in the truck than the 390 to help get more clearance. Anyone have any ideas on this??.

I really don't think you'll have any claerance problems. The one that I put on the F150 really surprised me that it fit. We used the 360 towers and some solid mounts that are alot like L&L's. The truck also has about 400-500 pounds added to the front for truck pulling. Those coil springs were sure mashed together! The drivers side tire is up inside the fenderwell.

I could barely get the stock pan out of my 460. I rose the engine to its limits (started to jack the whole truck up with the engine!).

The larger pan they accidently sent had no chance of fitting.

Best of luck.
