Ok I got a 94 F150 with a 4.9 and a 5 speed. The truck runs great, but i am losing oil some ware. I am losing 1 to 1.5 quarts per oil change. I use Vavoline 10W30 and a motorcraft filter. I replaced the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, pushrod gasket, and replaced the PCV valve but it was good any way. If anyone has any ideas or direction to go with this problem please reply. Thanks
Not sure of your situation, but how many miles on motor, what OCI do you run, i.e. 3000, 4000..., how hard do you work it? I lose 1 quart on my 2000 expedition every 3000+ miles.
Well it shouldn't be too hard to see if you're leaking oil. You would see oil the ground wherever you parked it. If it's not leaking, then it's burning it. Honestly, if it's only using 1-1.5 quarts per oil change it's no big deal. Just make sure you check it regularly and keep it topped off.
Heck, we have a 96 Saturn that uses 1/2 to 3/4 quart every tank of gas. But, it still runs great and gets 30+ MPG.
Check your air filter box. I bet you have a pool of it in there. Sounds like it's burning it, or it's pushing it out the front/rear main and possible the cam seal.
