The Toyota power steering conversion is a direct bolt on for a 1957 F100 or is a adapter required? Where can I see a picture of a Toyota box. Has any one done this? on a 57-60? How much does the conversion cost?
Thanks
Charles
Mid Fifty sells the kit that is needed for the Toyota conversion. It does require an adapter which is included. I am looking into doing the same on my '55 F350.
Darknight good name. About the toyota conversion, does the Toyota box still require a ram on the drag link. I would like to see a picture of this system. I had a link to a story but it was pulled because of a bug. Other than the box, hoses, pump, and special link what else is used and do you know the price?
I have the conversion kit. It works very well. instead of a borgeson joint I used the joint from a Toyota shaft which works very good because it just fits the original tube and doesn't require an adapter. I just cut my original shaft and slid into the Toyota shaft and welded it. The Toyota box is the most expensive item around $300 the bracket is around $125, I think the pitman arm was $90. I went to the junk yard to get the pressure side power steering hose.
I've replaced the tie rod ends and had it aligned and it drives great. I use it as a daily driver to and from work. The only thing is I need a sway bar in the front, if I take sharp turns going fast it kinda dips but not too bad. After the front end was completed I wanted to do the same for the rear. After pricing the brackets, hangers, leaf springs, etc. It was way over my budget. I went to the salvage yard and got springs with brackets on them from a Bronco and bolted them right in its the same that's on my 94 Ranger, everything is working great, Oh and I put a rear end from a Granada in it so I had to tub the bed which was very easily done another trip to the junk yard fender wells for $30 can't beat that.
Jaye I think your frame is narrower than mine. I think mine is 43" inside channel to inside channel. Did you mount the Granada axle on top the springs or under the springs?
The width of my frame is 34" outside to outside. The width of the Granada axle is 57" from the inside of the backing plate, I placed the axle under the springs. When I put the Bronco springs on I marked the Centrepoint and kept the left spring on while I lined up and marked for the holes then I remeasured it before drilling holes Then measured again to ensure it was centered then took measurements from the rear of the frame railing to do the other side.
