Stupid Computer Question

I use Outlook Express for my email program and since I upgraded to the new version of Internet Explorer, I can't get links from an email message to work. For example, when I get an email from FTE about a new post to a thread, I used to just click on it and it would open IE and go directly to the page. Now it won't and I have to copy, open IE manually and paste the address. Minor annoyance I admit but one I would like to be rid of.

I have tried every setting and option I could find and nothing works. I have disabled all firewalls, anti-virus, etc. and still nothing. Any thoughts?

I appreciate all advice but I do plan on staying with XP, IE and OE.

Thanks.

Ray

you need to go into the tools link on your top tool bar, then on internet options, then delete all cookies, and delete files, both online and offline. this will give you a clean slate to start with. everything should work after that, but you will have to re log on to all sites to create new cookies.

I am not sure, an excuse me if I am wrong, but I think what Ray is asking is when you open an e-mail message in Outlook Express that contains a link to a website he used to be able to just click on that link (URL) that is in the message and go to the site. He is not being able to do that know.
Normally if linking is enabled in Outlook Express, when you move your cursor over the link the type will change color, mine changes to blue.

I cannot check now because I am not on my computer, but I think, not sure, in Outlook Express options there is a way to enable/disable linking.

That's the phishing filter doing it's job. You can reset that under tools/options on the menu bar.

Try going to Tools/Options/Security in Outlook Express....make sure Internet Zone has a check mark in the box and more importantly, make sure there is no check mark in the box in front of "Do Not Allow Attachments to be saved or open that could potentially be a virus", make sure this does NOT have a check mark in the box preceding it.

I tried the phishing filter and nothing changed. It's aggravating.

I'm pretty sure it is something between OE and IE7 since I can use links from any other site including other web-based email programs.

Both of those settings were as they should be. All I get when I click on a link is "beep beep" sound.

I just googled IE 7 and OE and found numerous pages siting various problems with incompatibility on some issues. Probably the problem you are having is one of them. I suggest search the net using IE7 and Outlook Express in your search criteria.

I use OE 6 along with IE 6 service pack 1, and like you previously stated, do not have any problems. Sometimes newer is not always better, sorry to say..

But then again, I also am running Windows ME without any problems which many claim is the worst OS MS ever came out with, so go figure..

That would be the INBOX,.

Will they work if they are in the sent, & drafts folders?

I'll check mine right now.

Edit: Mine work in the INBOX okay too.

yes I have IE7

You mean there are other places to look for information besides FTE? I've never posted a question here (truck or otherwise) that wasn't answered here.....

Thanks for the help. I'll keep looking......

"Hyperlinks in messages stop working" only when dealing with MS... is it perfectly acceptable for something to "stop working"
