For some reason I cannot open links or web addresses that are sent to me in an e-mail. They are received in a different color than the rest of the text and when I move the cursor over it I'll get the "finger" indicating I can click on it but when I do click on it nothing happens. Any ideas?
I use Outlook to get my email & Firefox 2.0. Some programs are set to block possible spam & trojans, we need to know what are you using? Some can hold down shift & click on the link to open the link in a new window of Firefox.
Email security settings can cause that problem. So can not having a default browser set properly. A work around until you figure it out is just to copy and paste.
If you didn't change the settings yourself, I'd say you might have caught yourself a bug on the PC. Have you run ad-aware and spybot programs to find issues?
Also, are you on XP and did you recently download updates for the OS? This can also update other things like Outlook Express and IE, maybe not to your liking either.
I'm not very computer literate (politically correct way to say I'm a *******) so I really don't want to change my browser or e-mail service. What should I look for in my security settings?
Just for kicks go into Tools | Options | Security
What do you have set in the Virus Protection area?
Try changing to Internet Zone and make sure Do not allow attachments is unchecked. Does that get you warmer? You may also need to check your IE settings, as they control what Outlook Express allows.
