1996 ford escort ignition/powertrain control module????
chilton says the ICM is by the fuse box. i have two 96 escorts and i see nothing
my haynes manual says the 96 1.9L escort ICM is built into the powertrain control module (PCM) and it's a dealer service item
i just want to know where the powertrain/ignition module is. i won't try and test it if i don't have accurate instructions. but if i can take the one off the other car and keep it with me as a spare i will
On a 1.9L Escort the ICM should be on the front of the driver's side strut tower. It should have 2 nuts holding it on and 1 electrical connector.
What sort of problem are you having with the car?
The info I posted is from the Ford shop manual. Strange that it's wrong but anything is possible.
The PCM is under the center of the dash, under the console.
the bracket to hold the ICM is there... on both '96 escorts... but no ICM
i'm gonna have a look for the PCM tomorrow.
is the PCM something i can just unplug and plug in again or will that damage it? why is it a dealer service item?
if something happens to the car and i have no ignition and i think it's the ICM, can i just put in the other one and make my car work again or does it have to be programmed or something???
If the donor PCM is exactly the same.....both the same engine, transmission etc, it should plug in and work.
They really very rarely die though. If you had no spark it would more likely be a coil or crank position sensor or something like that.
