Front Fender patches

hi its my first post but I was wondering If any of you had any front fender patch panels for the 48-51 F1. I am restoring one and like all of them The top of the fenders and the lower gravel pan at the frame is rusted out.

There were a few places that carried patch panels for the top front fender of your truck but I haven't found a web site that carries them anymore. Dennis Carpenter in SC, in you home state, still carry the rear, bottom patches. You cantact them and find out if they still sell the upper repair patches. From what I have read on this board, most premade patch panels fit poorly and you have to adjust them to make them fit. '48-50 fenders are completey different than the '51-52s on the front. The only area they share is the area where they bolt to the running boards, so make sure you order the correct patch panels. I don't buy patch panels myself, I prefer to build my own. From what I have read about the poor fit of reproduction pieces, it sounds like making my own isn't much more work.

Good luck and welcome to the board.

Welcome to the board. I have a 50F1 and I haven't been able to find any for mine at this time. I'm going to make my own out of 18 gauge stock I have a friend that is going to show me how to do the first one so I can do the other,I hope LOL. Good Luck with yours. RUSTY

A member here, Reamer makes some repair panels for the F series trucks. His are aimed at the larger models, F2 and up, but may still have some value to you. As Bobj says, the F1s didn't have a lot of complicated shapes so making your own is not exceedingly difficult. Check thru the topics for the last couple weeks for a couple discussions on patch panels.
Welcome to FTE!

I've had to make all of my own patch panels for my 48 f-1. My truck had it's rust repair so long ago that the repaired places rusted out. I've had to cut out larger than usual patches, so commercialy available panels don't fit. I've had to make some plywood hammer forms for the more difficult patches, but most of what I've done is simple "bend it over your knee" panels. I believe Reamer is making cab corners, which are difficult to make, but alot of the other areas, such as the upper fender seams and lower fenders, are fairly simple bends. I assume you have the skills to attach the panels, try making a paper pattern, cut your sheet metal to pattern, shape it and tack it. If you run into trouble, post and someone will have the answer. Gary e posted a couple of days ago, Ron Covell is having a sale on his metal shaping tapes. You can buy the tape for lots less than one patch panel, and you get to keep the knowledge. Btw, what direction are you going with your truck? Restoration, streetrod? There's lots of info either way here, we're full of it. -Rusty

Thanks to everyone that replied. Actually it is not my truck. I am restoring it for a friend of mine at my college. I am going to Mcpherson College for Autorestoration so i have the ability to make the patches but I am doing the resto for free and they are paying for parts so i was hoping not to make them but if i have to i have to. Thanks. Oh and the direction of the truck is back to bone stock.
