Last night I was trying to cover up my truck and the darn antenna got caught up somewhere and it broke . It yanked out cutting the male part of the antenna receiver screw in half (the other half is still stuck inside the antenna). The antenna receiver end needs to be replaced now. My question is, how difficult is it to replace the antenna receiver? Both in term of cost and effort? While I’m at it, I’m also open for some new hi-fi receiver that has better reception and more channels. I want to go for satellite radios but I don’t want to spend on monthly subscription(even if it is 1 cent a month) although I can care less about initial cost if it comes with no monthly strings attached, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Replacing the OEM antenna is not so bad. If you open the front passenger door, you can look through the opening and see the antenna wire, and obviously, the antenna base will be right there too. You will have to remove the antenna wire plug from under the stereo (here is a tip: attach a stranded wire to the end of the plug BEFORE you pull it out, this way, you can snake the stranded wire through to the opening of the antenna base and when you go to install the new one, you attach the new plug to the wire and pull it back through)
Not sure of the cost though. I would go OEM though. Keeps the look and fit.
I don't really understand what broke on your antenna? On my 2000 F350, the antenna just unscrews from the base from the outside. Is the base somehow damaged? It should be a simple matter to screw a new antenna on.
In the diagram the part number is 18036(not just the bush but the whole part). The male part of the screw (top portion) is broke in half and is stuck inside the antenna. In other words the screw where you tighten an antenna on to the truck broke along the antenna. Does it make any sense?
