Do-it-yourself Diesel Repair
First, please understand that I am a VERY capable auto mechanic with about 11 years of experience working on GASOLINE engines. Unfortunately, I never worked on a diesel, never studied or learned anything about them. Now with the fact that I am a good mechanic, what are the best book(s) out there for this truck. I have done google searches and found several different general type repair guides, but nothing really specific. I noticed the link on here to the 6.0 bible and have it bookmarked. That's an awesome overview and reference and I know I will use it a lot. Is there a more detailed service manual that goes along with the 6.0 bible? If so, is it online anywhere, or where can I purchase one?
Last but not least, I am looking for some ideas of what the common things are that break on these engines. Any experience or advice.
Thanks for the help and I look forward to talking to everyoby on here.
Being less well versed than you in working on what I love, I think you just found the best resource out there
Theres also those 17 dollar shop manuals you can get at any parts store
or there's apparently a CD version for $20 that people here think is better. I can't tell you exactly what it is, I don't have it. Hopefully someone hooks you up on how to find that.
There's also the 6.0 specific forum below which you will likely find of greater interest, since everyone there has what you have.
Welcome to FTE!Checkout the 6.0 forum here at FTE. You will find all you want and more about the 6.0 PSD. That includes the LONG list of potential issues/problems.

Those books are a bit expensive, but are well worth the price when you do the work yourself.
