New Cummins

I heard today that the new Cummins will make 650 ftlbs of torque at 1500 rpm...

Sounds alot better than the 2000 of the PSD

On paper is one thing, but we'll have to wait until they hit the streets to see how these engines perform in the real world.

Actually, the old ISB's had an emergency vehicle rating that was well the 600's on torque and 300 HP. I know a guy that put a "Cummins" ecm on his Dodge and changed some parts per CPL. He distroyed the drive train. It was funny.

Cummins website says 610 ft. lbs. @ 1600 rpm for the 6.7 in the 3500 Chassis Cab

Ya the chassis cabs are rated at the old hp and tq numbers. The new 250 and 3500 will have the new numbers which I am pretty sure will outperform ford and gm. That is good low end grunt that will hold gears when pulling a load if they are even remotely close on the transmission programming.

This is sweet stuff.

I was surprised to read that the new Cummins will be a V8. I figured they were keeping it a 6 and just punching it out to 6.7L.

The 6.7 is still a six banger.

.
What, the chassis cabs are derated? Ford guys are blowing a gasket that the F450 Powerstroke is derated as compared to the F250 & F350.

The 6.7 liter Cummins is an in-line 6 cylinder. It certainly will be interesting to see who fairs best when the first year production (PSD & Cummins) hit the market... and we can't ignore the Dmax. IMO fuel quality will really be critical with all the new emission systems/garb in place.

Cummins is developing two new smaller diesel engines, one being a v8, rumored for the dakota and ram 1500.

As you can see below, the 650 foot pound version of the 6.7 Cummins will only be available with the 6 speed automatic transmission, the 6 speed manual buyers will have to settle for 610 ft.lbs. of torque;

It was the same way when GM offered the manual in their trucks.

It is the same way the 450 is derated as is the gm 4500... dodge does the same thing to the 3500 chassis cab for longer-life.
