Sudden shut off?
I was driving home from school, I pulled into the gas station and right when I began to turn into a parking spot when the power steering went out and the truck shut off. The "Service Engine Soon" light came on for a bit then went off. The truck then started right back up and didnt have any trouble for the rest of the way home. The truck has 154K on it, its a 99 with a 4.6L.

Has the alternator ever been changed on your truck? I had the same problem and found that the bearings in the alternator were going bad. This caused the alternator to lock up momentarily, thus stopping the belt, which also drives the power steering pump. Just a thought and it happened to my 99 4.6.

Take the belt off and turn the alternator by hand..If its free wheels and coasts, it should be ok..If it sounds rough when you turn it or turns hard,most likely the bearings are getting bad..At that many miles it could be very possible..
