How much do you pull... V10
How much do you pull... V10
Any of you guy's care to chime in and confess to how much weight you pull with your V10.
Myself and I'm sure a few others would like to know,
How much weight
2x4 or 4x4
What year truck and type
Gears, single rear wheel or dually.
What part of the country do you tow in..flatland hilly..?
I may end up goin 5th wheel and really want to know what to expect.
Not intrested in factory specs! Actual towing performace.
TIA

OK, I'll be the first. My truck is a 2001 F250, 4.30 gears, srw, and tow in hilly terrain mostly. I tow a bumper pull 12K lb. GVW Cam Superline dump trailer around town. Most of the time it weights somewhere between 9.5k and 12k lbs. The V10 pulls it like a tank. Not an issue. There is a stop sign at the bottom of a hill I have to go up and the V10 just chugs right up it. I have pulled about an 8k lb. horse trailer loaded on the highway without any hesitation and a 5k lb. race car and trailer rig 300 miles one way and it never broke a sweat. You can talk about diesel this diesel that, but the V10 blows them away in my book!
I have an 06 cc srw 4x4 f350 with a 6 speed and 4.30 gears i tow a 30ft toy hauler that i put a jeep inside weighs about 13,000 its tows it fine i live in OR so we have some mountais to climb. If you can keep the rpms up it will pull any hill at 50 to 55. I have had 2 v10s my other wass a 2000 with a 5spd and 3.73 gears it too was a great pulling truck with the same load, just as good as the new one if not a little better. I also have a 6.0 powerstroke work truck cc 6sp srw 3.73 gears. it doesn't tow this load any better than the v10. the v10 gets about 7 mpg towing this the powerstroke gets about 10.5.
A few times a year I pull a dual wheel trailer with 6 rick of firewood and another rick in the bed of my truck. I've never weighed it but I know it is heavy and the truck never misses a beat. I live in Kansas so it is pretty flat.
well lets see, the biggest load I have ever pulled was a 22ft lonf belshe trailer with a s220 skid steer loader a tree shear, tooth bucket a brush cutter set of forks. In the bed I had another 1200lbs attachment. The machine had tracks and foam filled attachments. thats a total of about 18k. the truck pulled the steep hills with no problems.
Purposely purchased for a fiver.
Most of the info you are asking about is in my signature, and this afternoon I added pictures of my 5th wheel to my gallery. Check'em out if you would like.
I have been very happy with the towing performance of my truck. I have posted several times after my trips. My mpgs average high 7s to mid 9s when pulling my fiver. I have towed in the flats around here and have made several trips to the Smoky Mountains. Next May I am heading to Durango, CO and then down to Phoenix, AZ.
I have scaled my truck (6840 lbs) and my fiver (nearing 12,000 lbs, 2,200 lb pin weight). There's a reason I went with the one ton, as it was bought to pull my fiver. It fits in my garage with 7" to spare in the rear, which is why I did not get a long bed (I have a slider hitch) or a crew cab.
My ONLY complaint is that I am 100% sick AND tired of the "OMG, I can't believe you pull THAT without a diesel". I can hook up, tap the throttle, and ease out of a campsite with no noise and no tire spin. I really love the V10.

I tow a 3 horse trailer with a tack room, weighing in at around 8,000 lbs or so, 6 speed manual pulls it just fine, Las Vegas- LA, and surrounding areas

My truck is an 04 F-250 CC 4X4 with 3.73 gears. Just picked up my 36ft 5th wheel toy hauler which weighs 10,800 dry. Truck pulled it like a champ. At 70 mph on the freeway i could use overdrive. On secondary roads with OD off it pulls better at 60-65 then 55 due to the rpms being in the sweet spot at 23-2500. Got 5-7 mpg towing. Get 14 hwy and 10-11 mixed.
My 05 CC LB FX4 Lariat SRW T/S V10 has 4:10 gears and it is a towing champ. I pull an 06 Montana high profile Fiver that is 33 feet long and 13 feet high. I weighed my unit last year at a Govt scale and I was 20800 pounds combined weight. The Fiver was at 12300 and the truck is 8500 pounds all loaded up with my 50 gal aux tank full, my tools, generator and a whole bunch of stuff.
My pin weight all loaded up is 2600 pounds and this put my GVW at 11080 pounds just nicely under my 11200 pound max rating.
My truck has a 21000 combined rating and I was just under that. 4:30's give you a 23000 pound combined but in my case a bigger Fiver would put me over my GVW and this is the case with most SRW trucks. Most places ,being over is no big deal but I live in BC Canada where we have a nut bar Government Crown Corporation Auto insurance and it is best to follow the rules when dealing with fools.
Last year I pulled my rig 3000 miles up many 6% and a few 8% grades. I can get a speeding ticket up any 6 % and I can do 50MPH on 8% hills.
I never got passed by any diesels and having owned 3 PSDs ,I am here to tell you this gas V10 out performed my 95 and 2000 7.3s
My 04 sick-oh had a lot of grunt when it was running but it would not embarass my V10 on a normal elevation pull. Way up high, I know the turbo out pulls a naturally aspirated engine but up to 3000 feet, diesels don't intimidate my V10. I lucked out and got a very strong engine. When I get new tires I can go to the 18" 65 series and that will change my gearing to 4.24s
I am not going to bother , love the gearing I now have.
True story, believe it or not. With 2600 pounds of pin weight, sitting on my LS 4.10s, dry pavement, at start up I got her rolling and mashed her to the metal, I could not believe it, shaking and jumping, and tires screaching, she can spin the tires with that load on her. Incredible! My 3 diesels could never do that pulling a Fiver, so where is the torque?
Anyway, 22 months of ownership have not dampened my enthusiasm for the incredible T/S V10 combination. I bought this truck to pull a Fiver. It does it incredibly well. The V10 is a work engine. She drinks a gal of juice every 7 miles pulling the Fiver, but the diesel friends I have with 13 foot high fivers have trouble getting 10 MPH so I have no complaints. Take care.

I know a lot of diesel boys not even getting 10 MPG with 13foot high Fivers.
I can get 7...............Not too shabby.

Thanks for all the replys men!
I'm kinda kickin myself in the backside for not gettin a dually with 4.30's
To much truck is far better than not enough!
My truck is not a daily driver, seeing how I drive 130 miles aday too & from work.
V10 on a dealer lot is hard to come by, didnt want to order one simply because
of my trade in.....
I guess the good thing is it stops me from spending more money that I dont have for a 5th wheel 12000lb empty.
As of now I'm gonna be pulling a 10000lb toy hauler, which is most likely
perfect for the truck I have.
Living in the midwest we plan to travel coast to coast, I also pull a built Jeep (rock crawler)
which is no concern with weight.
I've had 4 other SD's 99 V10 00 7.3 and two 6.0's my weight keeps getting higher.
None of the other trucks pulled over 8k.
Then I thought I'd get slick, no truck payment, picked up a super clean low mileage 1994 F250 4X4 5.8 4.10 gears.
It done the job OK on flatland pulling the TH noway I would head for the Smokeys pulling 10000lb, I just cant see holding the throttle to the floor to make a climb.
Bottom line is Uncle Sam ran me out of diesel trucks, hopefuly this V10
will get me through the hills with ease!
At 4500 miles I've yet to hit the 150hr.
Needless to say I'm very eger to pass the 150hr, hook up and go, this spring.
Most likely I'll have to do a gear swap, sillyass dealer orderd the truck with
the 20in wheels (34in tire) and stock 4.10 gears
This is the main reason I'm so eger to make a loaded pull through the hills.
If I do regear it wont be 4.30's

I have a '99 Crew 4X4 SRW with 4.10. It now has a yr 2000 motor and had a 5 speed manual and now has an '04 6speed. Truck has close to 300,000 and new engine has 85,000 including the 21,000 it had from the wrecking yard.
I live in Pennsylvania, and we have a few mountains, but mostly lots of large hills and ridges. (mountains to the midwesterners) I regularly tow a 10,000 GVW 20ft box trailer (10 ft high) that I have scaled at 11,500 and 21,000 GCWR. 4th gear pulled every hill I came across at 50mph plus including the Blossburg mountain on Rt 15 from the north to south. I seldom drop below 8 mpg and regularly get around 9 to 9.5. When the trailer is empty, (it weighs 3800 lbs) I can easily forget it is back there unless I hit a good size hill on I-80. The 6-speed made a huge difference in the Pa hills and would recommend the swap for anyone replacing a worn out 5 speed.
Couple thoughts. I added timbren overload rubber springs and like the overall effect, but it rides rough when empty right now until I take the 1" spacers out. The side to side sway and cornering stability when there is a load in the pickup bed is GREATLY improved. Second thought is that the v10's seem to handle all loads that we've been talking about up to and including 21,000 to 23,000 Combined lbs. When you start pulling more weight than that, isn't it time to step up to the F450 or 550 or even 650 type of trucks. I know I pulled 23,000 GCWR on a trip to Minnesota when I had the old engine and 5 speed in it. The truck was doing 35 to 45 up some of the Pa mountains but did very well in the flatland west of central ohio. But there was an incident in Minneapolis during rush hour where I was cut off and couldnt' stop and just nicked a car in front of me because I didn't have enough braking power. I think it's wise to stay close to our manufactures GCWR's and keep very aware of them.

My 05 F350 SC Dually has stock 17's, 4.30 LS, 5sp TorqueShift and HD suspension. I pull a 16' gooseneck hauling a Cat 257B, forks, GP bucket and misc tools in the truck. I have two men working for me that near 300lb and one that weighs, we guess, a buck 40. Total weight is about 12K with everyone on board. Here in central Alabama in the Appalachian foothills, I can maintain any speed I chose, merge on the interstate without much ado and I get 9-ish as long as I don't stay over 70 too long. Empty I have seen 12+, but mostly 11-ish. Everything about this truck's powertrain is better than my former 93 TD, 5 sp manual - EVERYTHING!
how much canyou pull??
well funny you ask, ihave been pulling a12400 lbs excavator on a gooseneck(6000 lbs) with my 99' f250 4x4 3.73,changed to 4.30,pulled good but stopped not so good. new hawk, powerslots helped but, it was mostly in city,so i found a 04 f450 4x4 v10 on 19.5 rubber ,before i got my, guys slid through a red light& hit a car( noone hurt)thank god , so the moral of the story is not can you pull it can you stop it ps . the 450 works great !!! gets as good or better mpg ,see ya barry
