What do you guys do with rearend sag when you haul these big rigs? Airbags, better shocks, Timbrens? With my 12k lb. dump trailer sometimes it seems as if the front wheels are going to come off the ground. Most of thw eight is at the front of the trailer, so I know that is part of the problem.
I do have the F350 with the 4 inch blocks and the overload helper springs, but still have broken 3 springs in the last year and a half. I installed Timbren overload springs mostly because I didnt' want to worry about deflating and reflating all the time depending on my load. Plus I didn't want to add a $250+ dollar air system just for the bags. Plus the install time was truly about 20 minutes as advertized. I had to take out the one inch spacer that was supplied with the kit because my springs have sagged over the years of use. Now it rides alot better when empty.
However, in your application, the weight distributing hitch might be the best idea. It will take the tongue weight that your trailer is putting on your pickup and put it back on the trailer axles where it belongs.
In my situation, I often pull a trailer AND have up to 3000 lbs in the bed for a total pickup load of at least 4000 lbs. In those situations the timbrens have really helped. This past week I had a load like this. It rode great and I was only about 1/3 of the way down on the helper springs.
hi, someone asked about my new brakes , they work better than stock, have not put a lot of miles on yet. look and feel good , priced ok kinda high, little more than napa but worth it, barry
05 F-350/CC/LB/ Dually/4:30 Diff V-10. Pulls a Montana 3400 .Total weight over 21K. Just pulled , Ohio, Ind, Mo, OK, NM, Az..many good grades.Saw some 6.8MPG saw some 10.2 . 8.2 av for the trip when we arrived at the Campground in Havasu City, Az
Did the V-10 perform well..yes Did we huff and puff pulling some of those N.M grades,, yes. Did we have any trouble pulling any grade..no. Was there a time or two I wished it was a diesel..you bet..Will I get the 6.4 if it proves to be a good motor..yes. End of story.
Bought this trailer (7x18 all alum) the day after I bought the truck. With 3 snowmobiles in it I figure I`m about 4000#s back there. I know I`m well within the weight of pulling with a V8 but I went for the ease of pulling and with the gas prices @ $3 a gal the V10`s was selling for the same price of the V8`s. I`m also hoping that with the "ease" of pulling that my gas mileage might/could be better then with the V8.......

That looks like a nice sled trailer. Is there a door on the front so you can drive out? It's kinda of PITA to drag sled backwards to get them out of the trailer!
There is a lot of talk about 3.73 gears being to tall for hills but I disagree. My 01 3.73 auto pulls 6% grades perfect because of the 3.73s. At 50 mph I am at at 4000 rpm in second gear. With the 4.30s it would be racing in second and ******* in third. There are a lot of 6% grades here in the Pacific North West. For my 24ft Toy Hauler weighing in loaded at around 10,000 pounds, I wouldn't trade for lower gears unless I had more tranny gears to help split the difference.

Yep, believe it or not I agree with you, even though I spent a lot of money to drop down to 4.30.. I was able to negotiate 6% with relative ease. But I added more weight to my trailer, and I usually hit grade over 6% at elevations up to 10k feet. Besides that, I have the Gear Vendor
I also agree with 68 351 Bronc and that is the same reason I am happy with my 4.10s.
In 05 I only had the two choices, 4.10s and 4.30s. These two ratios are so close that if I go to 65 series tires, that would effectively change my gearing to 4.24s.
I am going to stick with a 70 series because I love the way my trucks pulls grades with my 12000 pound fiver.
hey wrench....whats your speed at 2k rpm in overdrive? ii cant remeber what mine did stock, i have 4.10's and 315/70's and im doing 70mph at 2k rpm exactly...my speedo has been recalibrated...
