I have an '95 F-250 automatic, and I was hauling a 30' goose neck trailer so to start out I shifted down into first and was gonna shift manually while I was trying to go. But when I shifted down into first the rpm guage bounced around from 1-1/2 to 2 then finally the truck just died after a few seconds. I can keep it running but I have to rev up the truck. Any idea of what could be causesing this? Thanks for any help.
Welcome to FTE.
Is it acting the same all the time now? Or just when you shift into low?
Do you have a CEL on, or is the OD light blinking? Is the speedo working right? Have you changed the oil and filter, and cleaned the screen inside the filter? How many miles on the truck? Give us a few more details please.
It's only when I shift into low and it only does it some of the time, everynow and then ill be slowing down and ill downshift it into first to see if it will do it and it may or may not. I have around 500 more miles before the oil needs to be changed again I had it changed last time just cause I didnt have the time and on the sticker they had it to be changed again at 128,305 with SH1540 and im at 129,800 but they had it to be changed at 3,000 miles and I dont changed it ill every 5,000. The OD light don't blink and the CEL aint on.
It is important that you use an appropriate oil, I will never use anything but moto craft 15/40 or Rotella 15/40 with nearly 5000 miles and oil other than rotella or motocraft you could have a foaming problem, I am not sure though how the shifting into first plays in. Sorry
You need to get on to ebay and get a CPS sensor on the way, have you replaced it recently? this very well could be a CPS an erratic stalling of the engine. Just look up Cam Position Sensor powerstroke. should be about 50-75 bucks shipped. I don't think that your auto tranny can cause your engine to die unless your torque converter is staying locked do you have any chip mods of torque converter mods done on it?
Ill check out the CPS sensor on ebay. I havent replaced it. And the torque converter is as stock as the day it rolled off the lot. And hadnt gotten a chip for it yet.
