E40D issues...

First off 1991 f-150 302/E40D, i bought the truck with a Bauman Trans controller. i havent ever played around with its abilities. The trans has a few issues, but i will address only the main concern at the moment... It shifts imidiately to second gear upon putting it into drive. i can manually shift it into 1 on the selector when in which it will shift into 1st. after take off and shifting it into normal Drive selector i will have to manually downshift it coming to a stop again into 1st or it will die. anyone ever seen this before?

Not an expert but sounds like someone screwed up wiring in the controller.
If a carb. motor check that a throttle position sensor has been fitted and the controller connected to it. If EFI check that the controller is properly connected to the stock TPS.
Check that the controller has been properly connected to either the vehicle speed sensor or a transmission speed sensor.
Check that the converter lockup clutch circuit on the controller has been properly connected into the brake light switch.

Well when i first got the truck it shifted fine through the gears minus O/D. then last time on the freeway i was driving home and all of a sudden it dropped down to second gear without warning and has since basically been stuck in it... i drove it an extra 10 miles or so like that to get it home lol, will take a look to see if the TPS may be loose or any issues with the wiring

Stuck in 2nd would seem like it has lost electrical power to the solenoids. You need to check fuses and the big plug on the pass side of the trans.

Thanks, i did notice as soon as the issue arose i could hear some crazy as noises that sounded like they were originating from the trans. not a good sign but at least its a 2wd so if i have to pull anything im not fighting a transfer-case

At that plug on the pass side of the trans there should be a red wire, there should be 12v to it. Maybe check that after checking all fuses.
